ASUU Suspends Over 3 Months Strike

The Academic Staff Union Of Universities, ASUU, has suspended the 3 months old strike, after the meeting with the Federal Government on 7th Feb, 2019. This information was disclosed on the official twitter handle of the union. According to ASUU, academic activities will resume immediately as from tomorrow, 8th Feb, 2019 It was gathered that the union decided to suspend the 95 Days of Strike after reaching an agreement with the Federal Government. However, ASUU has warned that this is just a suspension of the strike and not an outright call-off. According to ASUU, if government goes contrary to the memorandum of agreement, the union will not hesitate to embark on another industrial action with full force.

ASUU Strike Update: Outcome of 21st January Meeting

The meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government is currently going on at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Abuja. According to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, the aim of the meeting is to ensure the lecturers get back to work. It was gathered that the National President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, led the union’s delegation to the meeting. ASUU delegation arrived at the venue some minutes before 4:00 p.m., but no member of the federal government delegation was initially around. The FG delegation later arrived and the meeting was declared open by Mr Ngige at exactly 5:25 pm. The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, was absent when the meeting comenced. In a chat with Dailypost, on Monday night, the National President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said the strike will be called off as soon as the Federal Government meets it renewed demands. Ogunyemi also said that ASUU will convey the outcome of it’s consultations to government and once government implements its resolution, the strike would be called off.
